The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported Wednesday that a woman shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis has died. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin stated that the shooting occurred when ICE officers fired “defensive shots” in response to the woman “attempting to run over our law enforcement officers” with her vehicle.
According to ABC News, Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, said in a statement that he was aware of the shooting and urged the agency to depart the city at once. In a statement posted on social media about the incident, Frey said the involvement of federal immigration officers was “causing chaos in our city.” He added that the city is “demanding ICE to leave the city immediately,” and said officials “stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities.”
